Happy Winter’s Veil!

December 24, 2010

(click for full view)

I hope everyone is enjoying their Holiday season!

I’m still about in Azeroth, and recently reached level 85 on my druid on Khadgar(US). I haven’t done many instances yet, and no heroics, and certainly no raiding, but I’m really enjoying all the new content; the zones, the quests, and of course, the new races! I played a Worgen, druid of course, through the starting zone and a bit further and am really enjoying their story line. When I get more time, I will delve into that character a bit more.

Me, personally, I have just finished up my first semester back at college in too many years to name, and working two part time jobs. That right there should sum up the reason I haven’t done too much to revive this blog – but I am still here and I am still playing! I hope to have new content up soon – but I’m not sure how much I will get done before school starts back up in less than a month!

I hope everyone has a super awesome Winter’s Veil and that Great Father Winter brings you all that epic loot that you wished for! And, remember, my old Winter’s Veil guides are still up here if you need help with all your achievements! They may be a tad bit outdated, but hopefully still good!

May Elune light your path!

Christmas Loot

December 26, 2008

My Christmas went pretty well. I spent it back home with my family, which also means a lack of WoW for me for the next few days. It really makes wish I had a laptop to game on. I am really looking forward to getting to play around with all the tons of new add-ons I installed on my newly working computer, and playing WoW on a widescreen set up. I did manage to log on to WoW before heading down here in order to get my present unwrapping skill up and finished off the last of my achievements to get my “Merrymaker” title!

So as for Christmas loot, I definitely made out pretty well. On top of the toaster oven I’ve been wanting (I know I’m weird, but you should have seen how happy my sister was to get her garbage can, long story) and the leopard print PJs (*very* feral) I got a bunch of really cool stuff. My mom also got me the 2009 World of Warcraft Wall Calendar. Yes, from my mom!! I had totally forgot about it, even though I’ve had one the past couple of years. I always love the art they put in there, plus the little stickers that come with it. Some say “Raid”, “AFK”, “DND”, as well as many others. Now if only I had a Guild to raid with, I could put a few more of those stickers into action. Also, trying to explain what World of Warcraft is to my Uncle and Grandma was very interesting.

My fiance got me a few awesome WoW presents, too (other than the awesome monitors). I got the talking Murloc Plush and the Baby Murloc Plush who came all the way from Korea to live at my house. Both very cute.

Well there are still many more Holiday festivities for me to take part in while I am home, so I won’t be back to my house for a few more days. I may get some time to write a post or two in the next few days, but without any WoW to play I’m not sure how much I will have to write about.

Hope everyone else got some WoW Loot for their Holiday of choice!

I’ll write you all again before the New Year, promise!

I get by with a little helper from my friends…

December 21, 2008

Ask any wannabe “Merrymaker” Druid, this is the worst achievement for us this Winter Veil. There are tons of Druids out there who love PVP, BGs, and Arenas, so how could this be so hard for us?

Let me first explain a little about how this achievement called “With a Little Helper from my Friends” works. You have to: “Earn 50 honorable kills as a Little Helper from the Winter Wondervolt machine.” To get turned into a Little Helper you have to first find the locations of the Winter Wondervolt machine. There are a few locations you can find the Winter Wondervolt machine in, but my machine of choice was the one in Runeweaver Square, Dalaran. (If you need to brush up on your Dalaran skills, that is the small park in the center of the city.)

To get the costume put on you, all you have to do is walk into the transporter looking thing and wait a second or two and POOF! you are a cute little gnome.

The reason I like the Dalaran location is its proximity to the Battlemasters. Get your costume, and run a few steps and queue for a Battleground.

All is simple, except for this one thing: the act of shapeshifting removes the costume. So whether cat, bear, tree, or moonkin, all druids will be cursing a little (or a lot) at Blizzard this holiday season. Therefore, all druids must complete this achievement in caster form. I think that ferals will really have the hardest time with this, as we have the lowest mana pool. I am not sure if Priests shifting to Shadow Form will affect this, or if being Polymorphed would have an affect either, however you will lose your costume regardless of class when you die.

I am kind of surprised by this in this day and age of Wrath. Especially as while heading through Brunnhildar Village will transform me into a blue lady no matter what form I am in. This is especially interesting while in flight form, as I then appear to be swimming laps in the sky. Getting this costume placed upon me does not break me out of any form, and changing forms has no affect either. If they can do this, they could certainly make it so that when I am a gnome I am in cat form, too.

Regardless of what could have (or should have) been done, we druids just have to deal for this Winter Veil. Here is how I went about getting the achievement. I know that chances are that it may take a bit longer for you all to get it, as I just got really lucky in the BGs that I entered.

I chose the above-mentioned Dalaran Wintervolt machine, and chose Eye of the Storm as my BG. Why EotS? It is a relatively short fight, has a small group of people (15), and it doesn’t make me want to avoid BGs for the rest of my life like some of the others do. Like I said, I got extremely lucky here. I ended up in what was quiet possibly the best group I’ve ever been in for EotS. I was able to get about 35 kills in one BG before I died.

I stayed back and moonfired as many horde as I could see so that when they eventually died I would get the HK for it. I also kept myself and many of my other teammates healed up, too. With my low mana pool I found myself popping my Innervate whenever it was up, and drinking whenever I was out of combat. I also used bandages to save my mana for moonfires. Don’t forget you can always shadowmeld to remove yourself from combat if you end up OOM. Shadowmelding does not remove the costume from you. You can also root people in place to keep yourself out of the middle of the action. I thought for sure that I would get targeted immediately by the horde for being a gnome in Santa clothes but I didn’t encounter any of that. My big tip would be: stay back and just use your moonfire to tag a target, don’t spam it or you will OOM and undoubtedly piss off the horde. You are more an observer here. And if you do die, don’t fret, you can pop into your form of choice and beat the snot out of the jerk that killed you and messed up the Achievement for you. Trust me, that is very therapeutic.

I ended up only having to enter 4 battles of EotS to complete my achievement. One was so bad I entered a midbattle fight and we were stuck on the rock twidling our thumbs until they won. Another was so good that we beat them 2000 to 0, which also rewards an achievement: “The Perfect Storm“. We also won that battle in under six minutes, rewarding: “Flurry“. For someone who doesn’t really care for BGs or PVP in general, this achievement was actually fun for me.

You do have until January 2nd to complete this achievement. And you can do 50 BGs and only get 1 HK in each if that is how the cards fall for you. You can mix your BGs too, and you can mix BGs in with Wintergrasp, or you can just camp level 71s in starting zones if that is what you desire. It’s up to you how to complete the achievement.

I did read a good tip on Wowhead for those who love to Wintergrasp. Once a battle has begun, hit up the Wondervolt Machine in Dalaran then pop into the portal to Wintergrasp. If you die, you can just right click on your minimap icon to “Leave Battleground”, get your costume on and head right back. (I haven’t tested this theory out, but it should work.)

I hope this helps you all be a little Merrier! Happy Winter Veil!!

Winter Veil Kissing Achievements

December 17, 2008

I am now only two achievements away from the “Merrymaker” Meta Achievement (and title!). I am just missing “With a Little Helper From my Friends” and “Crashin’ & Thrashin’“.

Most of the Achievements have been fairly easy for me to complete thus far. Below I have included some tips to help get your “Merrymaker” title and Achievement a little simpler. Today I am just covering the Achievements you can get from /kiss rewards.

Bros. Before Ho Ho Ho’s

The first thing you need before you set out to find all the Brothers spread about Azeroth is to get 9 Mistletoe. To get these, you go to an Inn and /kiss the Winter Revelers standing conviently under some mistletoe. It appears that this year you can kiss either the boy or the girl this year. (I seem to recall that in years past you could only kiss the opposite sex.) It also seems to only work with non-Northrend Revelers. I would also double check that you have one free bag space before your /kiss. After kissing them they will give you something; either Mistletoe (5), Fresh Holly (5), or a Handful of Snowflakes (5). You will also get a one hour debuff until you can kiss again (my guess is so your lips don’t get chapped). This debuff works similarly to Resurection Sickness, in that it does not continue to wear off when you are logged off. The Mistletoe is the one for this quest, but don’t toss the other two if you get them as they are for other achievements.

Finding the Brothers isn’t that hard if you know where to look. Wowhead is where I went, and found an amazing comment that gives the fastest route to get them all. Follow this link here and scroll down a few comments to the one written by Aristodamos. It gives you a very straight forward route to follow. It helped me out a ton to get this done with out several wowhead searches to find NPCs I’ve never heard of.

I hope you saved that Fresh Holly from kissing those boys and girls! If not, you can get some Preserved Holly two different ways. You can do the Metzen quest, or you can do “The Hero of the Day“, which will reward you with some. The difference between the two Hollies is that Preserved will last indefinetly and Fresh will disappear after having it for 7 days.

This achievement does require you to have a flying mount. You must fly to Ogri’la in Blade’s Edge Mountains in Outland and do the daily “Bomb them again”. You only need to be on your Reindeered mount when turning in the quest. So for all you Epic Flight Form druids out there, birdy bomb them away. When you get back to the quest giver, hop on a mount and use the holly to change to a festive reindeer, then hand in the quest.

Let It Snow

This one will require your Handful of Snowflakes from earlier. You will actually need two stacks of these, for a total of ten. You will need to snowflake 10 specific Race/Class types to earn this achievement.

  • Orc Death Knight
  • Tauren Shaman
  • Undead Rogue
  • Gnome Mage
  • Blood Elf Warlock
  • Human Warrior
  • Night Elf Druid
  • Troll Hunter
  • Dwarf Paladin
  • Draenei Priest

For your own faction you can always “/who night elf druid” (for example) to find your nearest one. I have even heard of some people being whispered and given gold for meeting someone to be snowflaked. For the opposite faction, I found the easiest thing to do was stand in front of the Horde section in Dalaran, waiting for someone to come by. It took me maybe 10 minutes tops, and I think they loved it because I was what they were looking for, too. I got much snowflakes while standing there.

A Gift Giving Guide: Your Lady of WoW

December 15, 2008

Well with Winter Veil upon us in game and Christmas and Hanukkah right around the corner and all, it’s time to get shopping for your own WoW Lady, if you haven’t done so already. I can’t say for sure what she may love (be it a bucket of popcorn or that fancy pair of diamond earrings she has been not-so-subtly wanting) but one thing is sure: if she LOVES WoW she would probably LOVE a WoW gift.

Wrath of the Lich King: If she doesn’t have it already you are letting her slowly die on the inside. Or, if she does have it and is QQing about the lack of Companion Pets her Main has, upgrade her to Collector’s Edition! Pricey, I know, but love knows no bounds (and you do know which love I am talking about, don’t you?). The CE Edition comes with much awesomeness, but the Frost Wyrm pet is a gift that will make her giggle in delight at it’s absurd cuteness. If that isn’t holiday spirit, I’m not sure what is.

TShirts: Who needs long sleeves when she has you to keep her warm? She will definitely be in the mood for huggin’ once she unwraps one of these awesome Ts.

  • Darnassus Nightsabers Women’s Tee – Let her show off her WoW Pride without it being too obvious! This WoW Tee is cleverly disguised as a Team Tee, although any WoWer out there is sure to recognize it!
  • Locked Chest Women’s Tee – You better hope you play a rogue for this one though. Or else she may go elsewhere to be “lock picked”. (*I’m just realizing now that they should update the graphic on the shirt, as max level has increased.)
  • Druid Class Women’s Tee – I of course have this one, so it gets my seal of approval. Actually, I’m wearing it right now! It’s a sign you WoW Lady also desires a class Tee of her own. They have one for every class, other than Death Knight, though I am sure that is to come soon.
  • /Dance Women’s Tee – I also have this tee too, in Olive. A must have for any Night Elf.

Talking Murloc Plush Toy – I have a love for Murlocs. This little cutey stands (hunches?) at 9 inches tall, and sings that lullaby that is the Murloc Battle Cry: MRRLGLLRMMRRRGLLL!!! (I’m not sure on the spelling there.) If your love has a soft spot for the oft misunderstood underdog of Azeroth, pick up one of these guys so she will have someone to cuddle with when you undoubtedly stay up all night raiding.

Baby Murloc Plush – That last Murloc not cute enough for her (or you)? Seek out one of these ultra rare baby Murky plushes. As far as I know they were only available at a 2007 WWI event in Korea. Yes, he is a Blizzard Licensed Product. And oh so cute, too!! You can find them on Ebay, but the price isn’t cheap. But you know my feelings on love… (see above)

World of Warcraft Action Figures – Not into plush toys? How about hard plastic. (You know, so when its sitting out and your bros come over they won’t laugh, and you won’t have to explain who wears the WoWPants in your household…) Check out these Action Figures. It even comes in the delicious Broll Bearmantle flavor. (/insert druid crush xoxo<3xoxo /end druid crush)

And, of course, if you’re cheap, there’s always pre-paid game time cards!!

Happy Feast of Winter Veil!

December 15, 2008

I usually frown upon the existence of Mondays, but today is an exciting Monday! HAPPY FEAST OF WINTER VEIL!! The festivities run from today, Monday, December 15th until Friday, January 2nd.

Greatfather Winter is back this year, and if you’ve been nice (or just a little bit naughty) and you bring him some fresh baked gingerbread cookies and ice cold milk he might have a few achievements to stuff into your stocking this year. I hope I am on his “nice” list, especially since I have already Rescued Metzen and found the lost Smokeywood Pastures shipment, ensuring a Merry Winter Veil celebration for all the young ones in Azeroth.

I even threw on an apron to cook up some tasty treats for my guildies. I think I may even bake up a batch of Tasty Cupcakes and Gingerbread Cookies to fill their mailboxes for the holiday.

If you, too, are trying to bake up some cookies for Greatfather Winter and find that your bags are lacking Small Eggs and the Auction House prices have got you down, head to Eversong Woods. The Dragonhawks there have about a 150% drop rate. Every single dragonhawk drops at least one egg, and often they drop 2. I spent less than 30 minutes in the area last night and was able to farm 200 eggs. I just shifted into my seldom used travel form and ran around one-shotting them with my fierce auto attack.

  • If you are Alliance, just fly to Zul’Aman from Ironforge. From Dalaran, your quickest route may be to port to Shattrath, hop into the portal to Isle of Quel’Danas, and hop on a flight path down to Zul’Aman. Mount up and head North through the Ghostlands. Once you cross the river into Eversong woods. You should find an ample supply of these low level beasts to cook up all the Gingerbread Cookies you could ever want. Keep in mind that this is a Horde zone and all NPCs will be unfriendly towards you. You will also be tagged for PVP in this zone, whether or not you play on a PVP server.
  • For Horde, well you are lucky (for once), just port right on over to Silvermoon and head south, you will see dragonhawks all around once you leave the city. And please be kind to any Alliance you find, they are just looking to get eggs to make presents for their friends.

Holiday spices, which are also needed to bake the Gingerbread Cookies, are available from the Smokeywood Pasture vendors located right near Greatfather Winter for the small fee of 10 copper. He is also going to need something to wash those cookies down with. Ice Cold Milk (required for the quest) is available from any innkeeper that sells refreshments. I know for sure that the innkeeper behind the bar at the Inn in Ironforge has them.

You can also use the Holiday spices to cook up two other Holiday recipes. Egg Nog requires a small egg, ice cold milk and holiday spices, which you should have left over from the quest, as well as holiday spirits. You can pick them up from the vendor next to the one that gives quests (at least in Ironfogre). Hot Apple Cider requires holiday spirits, holiday spices, and sparkling apple cider. Cook all three and you will earn the achievement: “The Winter Veil Gourmet“.

Happy cooking and Happy Holidays!
